The first step is always the scariest, so why not take a bunch of them all at once?

So after taking what felt like ages off from my photography… I’ve decided to get back into it. It has felt off to me for a while. The only time I really did any photography the last two and a half years was when I was with Tanya, here and in Australia last year. I don’t think that’s a coincident. When I was talking to her about this endeavor to get my photography store up and running, I kept telling her how I didn’t want to do this without her here. However, it felt like the right time to use the system that Art Store Fronts (ASF when mentioned later) has developed over the years. So, here I go with it…

Part of launching the new website to sell fine art prints of my photography is to start doing email campaigns, social media posts and more engagement. Which just makes me cringe but at the same time, I’m aware that it is necessary. Even just writing about it makes my skin crawl. I’m not sure what I’m going to be doing on this space moving forward. I feel like this is going to become an outlet to the business. I feel like the system ASF is very interesting and they have the data to back up everything they have you doing to sell photography. I currently have 2 sets of photos as well as some Limited Editions inside those sets. I’m working to get Landscapes and Travel Portraits up next. Its interesting to see the business requirements of the print business and it makes me respect photographers who have done this on their own. Its a ton of work and I am excited to do it. However, there are times when I want to just HURRY UP!

And if that wasn’t enough, I’ve been doing a lot of research into NFT/digital art. Its funny, as I was talking to Shiloh (brother in law who knows a lot about NFT art) bout this, I listened to this photography podcast with two photographers I greatly respect. They RIPPED into NFTs and the whole scene. Which is funny to me because they sounded like ‘get off my lawn’ old men that were spouting arguments that were years old. Now, I do aspire to one day be one of those ‘get off my lawn’ old men, but for now I’m going to play around.

Its been really invigorating to see other photographers use these avenue to support themselves with their photography. Which… at the end of the day, is all I’d like to be doing.

So this last week I minted 4 images on an NFT website that Shiloh uses. Its been very interesting to interact with the NFT community. It has also been a huge encouragement to me to see a lot of amazing photography out there that people are able to make a living off of by selling NFTs and prints. There’s still a lot being figured out with the community and I’m hopeful to be a contributing participant in it.

My first collection does overlap with my art store and that was a tough decision to make. I thought that they needed to be exclusive and there are arguments on both sides. However, whenever I talked to photographers about it, a lot of them offer it as an either or option. Some people will want the NFT and not even want a print. Others would rather ‘touch’ the art. So, creating an option for both just makes sense.

Once again, thank you for being here for me and taking the time to read my infrequent ramblings.
